On Sunday, 80 Korean scouts and leaders said they would leave the 2023 World Scout Jamboree in New Muan after failing to take appropriate measures to protect young people when a man entered the women's shower room.
The North Jeolla Province Scout association, with 80 participants including 72 teenagers, announced their withdrawal from the event on the 8th after "a Thai scout leader entered the women's restroom."
He said about 100 witnesses saw everything that happened.
The Korean scout official said the Jamboree committee gave the Thai scout leader "a simple warning" and added that his association had reported the incident to local police.
He said at a press conference held at the Jamboree news center at the campsite: "(The police) recognize the seriousness of the case and have handed it over to the Women and Youth Investigation Division of the North Jeolla Police Department."
The leader criticized the Jamboree committee, claiming that it took no action to protect the victims and did not separate them from the accused scout leader.
"Scouts said they were very scared and did not want to stay at the Jamboree camp," the official said.
